Before you write
Reporting a wrong number? Please include the page URL, the inputs you used and the result you expected. That turns a fix into a five minute job rather than a reconstruction. Corrections are the most useful mail we get.
Asking what to buy? Tell us your total budget for the whole setup, whether you drink milk drinks or straight espresso, how many drinks you make back to back, and how much counter run you have. Without those, any answer is a guess. The budget split calculator, gear roundups and complete builds will usually get you there faster than we can by email.
Asking why a shot tastes wrong? Send the dose in grams, the yield in grams, the shot time in seconds and the machine and grinder. That is enough to diagnose most problems. Start at the dial-in guide and the troubleshooting chart, which between them cover the usual causes.
We cannot give repair instruction. Everything here is researched guidance. We will not talk anyone through work inside a machine that carries mains voltage or holds pressurised water above boiling point. That belongs with a qualified technician, and the risk of getting it wrong is an injury rather than an inconvenience. See our disclaimer.
